Ten years is a long time in the restaurant world, and Original Patty Men is celebrating the milestone in typically generous fashion. To mark a decade at its Digbeth home, O.P.M. is running ten limited-time collaborations over ten months, inviting friends from across the food scene into its kitchen.

The burger specialists, who cheerfully call themselves "Purveyors of filth", are one of the success stories of Birmingham's street food movement. They are among the traders who started out at Digbeth Dining Club events before opening their own restaurant.

The Digbeth restaurant sits at 9 Shaws Passage, where bookings are taken for parties of two to 14 and walk-ins are welcome. Next door at 5 Shaws Passage is Kilder, a bar where diners can wait for a table.

The burgers have won a loyal following, and the specials board is where the fun really happens. One reviewer at Burger Source tried a doner burger topped with American cheese, homemade kebab-style slaw, chilli sauce, garlic mayo and homemade beef doner meat, and noted the restaurant's reputation for unusual toppings and aged Longhorn beef.

The anniversary collaborations bring in some exciting names. One series saw Everyday People take over the Digbeth kitchen from 3 to 12 July with small plates and ramen. Everyday People is run by Pete Hewitt, a MasterChef finalist and founder of Homeboys Street Food, whom O.P.M. first worked with at Burger Fest in September 2019 after meeting on the Midlands street food circuit.

There is more to O.P.M. than Digbeth, too. Its second home is The British Oak at 1364 Pershore Road in Stirchley, where there is a beer garden and no bookings are needed. The British Oak itself is a local landmark, rebuilt in 1926 and known for its bowling green and gardens.

A decade on, Original Patty Men remains a proudly independent part of Birmingham's food identity, and a reminder of how much talent has grown out of the city's street food scene.

Opening hours, menus and details of the latest anniversary collaboration can be found on the Original Patty Men website.
