Good news for anyone who enjoys a pint in Stirchley: Attic Brew Co is staying put. In August 2026 the independent brewery confirmed it had bought the site that is home to its production facilities and its much-loved taproom.

The brewery describes itself as Birmingham's largest independent brewery. The site it has acquired is a 56,000 sq ft industrial estate off Mary Vale Road, which it shares with other independent businesses. Those neighbours will carry on trading as normal. Attic bought the estate from a private landlord who was retiring.

The purchase was backed by a seven-figure funding package from NatWest and the Midlands Engine Investment Fund II, managed by Frontier Development Capital. The fund is a £400 million pot covering the whole Midlands, designed to help smaller businesses grow.

Founder and director Sam Back made clear what the deal means. "The brewery and Taproom are at the heart of our business," he said, adding: "Acquiring the site will secure the future of the business."

It caps a busy period for the brewery. Trade sales have risen by 60 per cent over the past year, and business development manager Catherine Webber has been named as a key part of the growing team. In recent months the brewhouse has nearly doubled in size, a new canning and kegging plant is being installed, and the funding will also pay for new cold storage and improved production facilities.

David Tindall, senior investment manager at the British Business Bank, said: "Attic Brew has established itself as a successful and innovative business with strong roots in the Midlands."

Attic's beers have been reaching more drinkers too. Intuition Pale Ale and Orders Hazy IPA have appeared on the shelves of selected Sainsbury's stores across the Midlands, while the brewery also runs The Barrel Store in the Jewellery Quarter alongside its Stirchley taproom.

For a neighbourhood that has become one of the liveliest food and drink destinations in south Birmingham, it is reassuring to know that one of its anchors now owns the ground it stands on.

Taproom opening times, events and the full beer range can be found on the Attic Brew Co website.
